Straight answers about your SEO data.

Where the numbers come from, what each check covers, and what we keep about your requests.

Getting started

Accounts, limits and where to begin.

Do I need an account or a payment method?

No.

Core tools are free and do not require signing up. Keyword metrics are coming soon; check the keyword tool for its current availability. Available website checks accept a public URL.

Which tool should I start with?

Start with the question you're trying to answer.

Keyword research
Which topics are worth writing about, and how much demand and advertiser interest they have.
Website audit
What is holding one page back: metadata, headings, links, structured data and AI readiness.
Full-site crawler
Duplicate titles, broken links and indexing conflicts across up to 100 linked pages.
Domain comparison
How the backlink strength of your domain compares with others.
SEO tools
One specific check: robots.txt, sitemaps, redirects, security headers, DNS or PageSpeed.

Are there usage limits?

Yes. They keep the tools fast for everyone.

Each IP address can make up to 50 tool requests a minute. If you hit that, wait a minute and try again. Each tool also has its own size limits:

Keyword research
Up to 100 keywords per run, or 20 seed keywords when you ask for ideas.
Location matrix
Up to 5 locations per run.
Domain comparison
Up to 10 domains per run.
Website audit
One page, up to 2 MB, 5 redirects and 60 seconds.
Full-site crawler
Up to 100 pages, 5 links deep, 10 minutes.

Why does a tool say data is unavailable?

We tell you instead of guessing.

Keyword data needs our Google Ads connection. Other checks depend on services such as Google PageSpeed Insights, Ahrefs, DNS and RDAP servers. When one is down, over quota or slow, the tool says which part failed and shows that value as unavailable.

We never fill a gap with an estimate. Some checks, like PageSpeed, can take up to about three minutes, so give them time before you retry.

Keyword research

Where the numbers come from and how far to trust them.

Where do search volume and CPC come from?

Google Ads.

Volume, CPC, bid ranges and monthly history come from Google Ads, through an approved account we operate. You never connect your own Google account, and we don't receive or store your Google data.

If that connection isn't available, the tool says so instead of showing estimates.

Is competition the same as SEO difficulty?

No.

Competition is advertiser competition in paid search: how crowded the ad auction is for a term. It says nothing about how hard it is to rank organically.

Keep in mind: Use it to read paid-search demand. For organic difficulty, review the pages that already rank.

How is the opportunity score calculated?

It's our own 0–100 heuristic, not a Google metric.

The score combines monthly search volume, advertiser competition, growth, how specific the phrase is and CPC. High volume and low competition carry the most weight. Growth compares the earliest and latest months Google returns, and can raise or lower the score. CPC adds a little.

If volume or competition is missing, the score shows as unknown rather than a guess.

Keep in mind: It's a way to sort a shortlist, not a prediction of rankings or revenue.

Can I research a specific city or country?

Yes.

Local keywords lets you search for a country, region or city by name (up to 30 matches are shown), then runs your keywords for that place and language. Location matrix runs the same keywords for up to five locations, so you can compare markets side by side.

How fresh is the keyword data?

Repeat searches can reuse saved results for up to seven days.

To stay fast and avoid unnecessary provider requests, we may reuse saved metrics for the same keywords, location and language. Results stay in memory for up to 15 minutes and in our database for up to seven days.

Search volumes are monthly figures, so a few days of age rarely changes the picture.

Can I export keyword results?

Yes, as CSV or Excel.

Result tables can be searched, sorted and downloaded as CSV, including all matching rows and the columns you have visible. Keyword research also offers an Excel (.xlsx) download.

Keep in mind: Location matrix results can't be exported as one file yet. Export each location through keyword research instead.

Domain comparison

What Domain Rating measures, and what it leaves out.

Where does Domain Rating come from?

Ahrefs.

Domain Rating (DR) is Ahrefs' 0–100 score for the strength of a domain's backlink profile. We credit Ahrefs, with a link to its data license, beside every result.

You can compare up to ten domains at once. Results may be reused for up to an hour, so a repeat lookup in that window returns the same numbers.

Does a higher DR mean better Google rankings?

Not by itself.

DR compares backlink strength between domains. It's an Ahrefs metric, not a Google one, and it says nothing about content quality, relevance or search intent.

Keep in mind: Use DR to compare domains with each other, not to predict where a page will rank.

Can I see a domain's backlinks or the keywords it ranks for?

Not with the free Ahrefs data we use.

The free data covers Domain Rating, the list of top-rated domains and the IP addresses and ranges Ahrefs crawls from. Backlink lists, referring domains, organic keywords and keyword gaps need a licensed Ahrefs plan, so we don't show them and we don't estimate them.

Audits and crawler

What each check looks at, and where it stops.

What does an audit score mean?

The share of applicable checks your page passed.

SEO, security and AI readiness are scored separately. Every check shows its evidence and a recommendation, and warnings and errors both count as not passed.

Keep in mind: A score describes the page's HTML today. It doesn't predict rankings.

What does the website audit check?

One public page, in depth.

Titles, descriptions and canonical tags, robots directives, headings, word and keyword counts, images, links, social tags, hreflang, structured data and security headers, plus your robots.txt, sitemap.xml and llms.txt.

It samples up to five images and five links instead of testing every one.

Does the audit run JavaScript or crawl my whole site?

No to both.

The audit fetches one public page (up to 2 MB, 5 redirects and 60 seconds) and reads the HTML your server sends. Content that only appears after JavaScript runs isn't seen. To check many pages at once, use the full-site crawler.

How much of my site can the crawler check?

Up to 100 pages, five links deep, in ten minutes.

It starts at the URL you give, follows links on the same origin, respects robots.txt and nofollow, and stops at whichever limit it reaches first. It reports duplicate titles and descriptions, missing headings, broken links, redirects, and canonical or indexability conflicts. URLs with different query strings count as separate pages.

Keep in mind: It reads server HTML only. Links that need JavaScript, orphan pages, other origins and the status of external links aren't covered, so a missing finding doesn't prove an unchecked page is fine.

Why can't a tool reach my page?

Tools only fetch public pages.

For safety, tools request public http and https URLs on standard ports and re-check every redirect. Localhost, private network addresses and pages behind a login will fail, and so may sites that block automated requests. Our tools identify themselves as KWFindersBot, so you can allow that user agent in your firewall or bot rules, and the full-site crawler follows robots.txt. Confirm the URL opens in a private browser window, then try again.

Can AI readiness guarantee I'll appear in AI answers?

No.

AI readiness checks whether crawlers can reach your content and whether it is clearly structured. The AI crawler checker tests your robots.txt against named AI crawlers. None of this measures whether AI systems cite you, and neither a score nor an llms.txt file guarantees indexing, rankings or citations.

Data and privacy

What we keep, for how long, and who else sees a request.

What do you store when I run a tool?

Very little, and most of it expires.

Keyword metrics
Cached for up to seven days, filed under the request (keywords, location, language), not under you.
Domain Rating results
Held in server memory for up to one hour.
Crawls
URLs and findings are stored for 24 hours, then deleted.
Single-page audits
Not saved as reports.
Server logs
Standard logs can include your IP address, the request path, time, response status and browser details.

It's how you get back to your results.

There are no accounts, so the crawler sets an essential, HTTP-only cookie that lasts 24 hours and identifies the crawls you started in this browser. Clear it and you lose access to those results. Reports are deleted after 24 hours either way.

Who else receives my requests?

Only the provider behind the tool you run.

Keyword tools
Google Ads.
PageSpeed checker
Google PageSpeed Insights.
DNS lookup
Google Public DNS.
Domain RDAP lookup
RDAP registry servers.
Domain Rating
Ahrefs.
Meta length checker
Google's favicon service, contacted by your browser.

A URL or domain goes to a provider only when you run the tool that needs it, and each provider handles it under its own policies. We don't sell submitted data.

Can I ask what you hold about me?

Yes, by email.

Because there are no accounts, we can't look up data by login. Email us the tool, roughly when you used it and the URL or keyword involved, and we'll check what is logged or cached. Crawl reports also expire by themselves after 24 hours.

Please don't submit confidential URLs, keywords or personal information. Requests can appear in server logs and in provider systems. Full details are in the privacy policy.

Are you affiliated with Google or Ahrefs?

No.

KWFinders is independent. It isn't affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Google or Ahrefs. Google Ads is a trademark of Google LLC. Ahrefs is a trademark of Ahrefs Pte. Ltd.
